(Marquees):

Q: What type of material is used to produce these marquees?
A: EMDKAY, serving the arcade gaming community since 2002, proudly offers arcade and mame marquees on a variety of professional materials:

Resin Coated GLOSSY Photograde Paper: This is a high gloss, resin coated, photograde paper for vivid, colorful images. It's ideal for digital marquee images with accurate colors and rich, bold blacks, meant to give you the highest resolution and color saturation possible. You may use rear-illumination with this material.

Resin Coated LUSTER Photograde Paper: This is a high resolution, resin coated, microporous, bright white, photograde paper designed for the highest quality color images. It's perfect for a slightly textured, authentic paper marquee look and feel. You may use rear-illumination with this material.

Permanent Adhesive Vinyl: This is a permanent, self-adhesive material with a highly bleached, water resistant coating. The colors on this material appear softer than glossy and luster finishes. It is still recommended to use lexan over this material if used as a control panel.

Translucent Polyester BACKLIGHT FILM: This is our highest grade marquee material available, meant for sophisticated, professional results. The material is matte on the printed side and glossy on the opposite side. The film's ultra-white diffusing layer is specifically engineered for use with rear-illuminated marquee projects. You may use any type of rear-illumination with this material including fluorescent, incandescent, halogen, even LEDs and blacklights.

Q: Are custom sizes available?
A: Yes, the maximum height that can be produced is 13.0". The length can be any size up to 44.0". Please inquire about sizes over 44.0".

Q: I don't see the particular marquee that I'm interested in. Is it available?
A: We have hundreds of marquee images available. Please feel free to ask if you don't find it in our online store.

Q: The marquees don't appear in great quality on the website. I can see jagged edges on the lettering of MAME in several images. Why is this?
A: The marquee images on the website are compressed for faster download times, and are only a representation of the marquee that you will receive. Your actual marquee is produced from an extremely high quality file.

Q: Can you print out a marquee from an image file that I send you?
A: Yes, as long as it meets these requirements: The file must be at least 150 DPI (300 DPI is optimal), and in either PSD, AI, BMP, TIF, PNG, or JPG format. If your file doesn't exactly meet these requirements, feel free to send the file anyway and we'll let you know what can be done. If you'd like to upload a file for printing, please use Mediafire to store your file online. Upon completion, you'll be given a share link. Please include that share link in your order and/or when contacting us.

Or, especially if your artwork is over 200MB, please use the Mediafire Dropbox below to upload directly into our account. Be sure to name your artwork something unique, such as your name. Upon ordering, be sure to mention the exact file name in your payment notes area.

Q: I'm looking for a particular image to edit on my computer. Is the file available for download?
A: We have a library of thousands of arcade images consisting of marquees, side art, control panel overlays, control panel underlays, bezels, coin door decals, instruction cards, and stickers. Feel free to ask and we'll search for your desired image.

Q: I have an idea for a marquee I'd like created. Can you make a marquee from scratch based on my ideas?
A: Yes. Let us know exactly what you'd like your marquee to look like and we can create it! We offer very low rates and free quotes before any work is done!

Q: How exactly do I mount the marquee onto my arcade cabinet?
A: There are several different methods to mount your marquee. You can sandwich the marquee between two sheets of lexan, then place screws directly through the lexan and marquee into the cabinet marquee frame. You could also use a marquee retainer (see below), but it is not necessary. A marquee retainer simply supplies a frame for the lexan that mounts around the cabinet marquee frame. The good thing about using a marquee retainer is that you don't have to drill holes through the lexan and marquee.

Also, if you don't have lexan or special tools, you could simply place screws directly through the marquee, into the marquee frame. Some people choose to simply use a sticky adhesive around the back of the marquee, and mount it to the marquee frame area on the arcade cabinet. Please view the "customer installations" page to see how they look when mounted with these different methods.

An economical and non-technical way of securely sandwiching your marquee between two sheets of lexan is to use small binder clips - available at most office supply stores.

There are no "wrong" ways to mount your marquee. These are just the most common methods that customers choose to follow. It never hurts to get creative when mounting a marquee. One customer used car window weather stripping as a marquee retainer! Hey, whatever works!

Q: I want to use marquee retainers. How can I ensure that they do not cover up my marquee artwork?
A: If the very top or very bottom of your image contains a part of the image that you do not want to be covered by marquee retainers, you can specify two sets of dimensions when ordering:
Material dimensions (actual size of the marquee material)
Viewable dimensions (smaller dimensions, after the marquee retainers are applied).

Q: I'd like to use a Happ's Marquee Retainer to hold my marquee in place, but I'm not sure how to install the product. How is this done?
A: Happ's Marquee Retainers are very popular for mounting our marquees. Please view this image for instructions on installing the marquee retainers.

Q: How long should I expect my marquee to resist fading?
A: Under normal circumstances, out of direct sunlight and under lexan protection, EMDKAY marquees are printing on special material with archival ink that should resist fading for up to 95 years. Higher intensity indirect daylight can reduce fade resistance to 15-25 years.
